Exhibit Description: The representation of the Self is arguably the most explored subject in the history of visual art. Introspective seeking of ”who am I?" combine with the lifelong quest of “looking for myself” to capture the realness in any given moment.
The contemporary self-portrait can be traditional representation of a person in a space, and it can also venture far into the non-representational arenas between the recognizable and the abstract. Some artists consider abstraction to be a portrait, for example, “the mark I make today is a representation of myself”. Self-portraits can look like the artist's mirror image AND/OR be a representation of the inner landscape.
THIS IS ME is a curated group exhibition that takes a contemporary look at the wide range of approaches to the self-portrait, featuring the diversity, vulnerability and risk artists demonstrate when they reveal their Self.
