Feeling suffocated by situations, places we don't belong in, people we can't seem to fit with may only be apparent to us, the sufferers. There are those around us who make the suffering greater but there are plenty more who would lift away the obstacles if we could only realise they exist and if we would only let them.
'Yearning for release' lets the viewer choose what the hand is doing to the subject of the image. Are they helping to lift the obstacles or pushing them in deeper?
The artwork explores the ideas behind my mission statement of shining light on shared emotional experiences to create a sense of belonging.
The image is a self-portrait. It is a digitally manipulated photograph colour toned and lit in a painterly manner to project a timeless feel.
