The title refers to Edvard Munch, an early influence of mine. I took a painting with collaged sawdust depicting a wooden door from 2016-17 with the intention of reworking it. Since I felt it still held up, I chose not to whitewash it. I turned it on its side and used the door imagery as structure for explosive mark-making on a textured surface. The subject is the inner mechanization of a self-portrait. The viewer may see a face or two, but this is a painting of inner struggle.
