When researching Jazz music that was sampled in hip-hop and rap music, I learned that producers sampled “Lonely Fire” by Miles Davis’ for Biggie’s “Suicidal Thoughts”. In this piece, Biggie’s lyrics peek through splashes of alizarin crimson and cadmium red hues on raw birch cradle board. The reckless energetic strokes of pastel in the blackest black help manifest the raw emotion from Biggie’s words and the transparency of the black hue reveals his lyrics underneath alongside a collaged image of his face. Biggie was a talented story teller and hip-hop artist.
