High quality oil and raw pigments are emulsified with kerosene and poured onto untreated, 15-18 oz. canvas. Kerosene as a vehicle for pigment stains/pouring techniques is very unique in retaining the purest pigment result obtainable. The kerosene is the only solvent that completely evaporates within a 12-24 hour period, during which the original color (darkened when made “wet” by emulsifying it with the solvent) returns. This technique is further complicated by wet-into wet pours, tilting the canvas to engage gravity in the shaping of the pours and layering variations of transparency and opacity to structure the composition and create a dynamic and emotional palette.
